Another attempt to convince N. that we MUST get a dog went down the drain….But I sure won’t quit trying.
My sister Alex and myself were completely spoiled as we grew up in a little zoo-like home. No wonder why I am such a strong believer of raising your kids in a household (semi) filled with pets. You get to teach them some of the greatest lessons in life. They learn how to respect and take care of them, how to love them and receive their unconditional love, how to cope with sicknesses and yes, eventually, how to deal with the immense grief once the inevitable happens and your pet dies.
I also KNOW that a decision to adopt a dog is not to be taken lightly. You commit to take care of it no matter what, for hopefully the next 10-15 years. You have to walk with him, to feed him and provide shelter for him. You have to vaccinate him and treat him if he gets sick.
A dog is a companion for life.
Unfortunately we have a very big problem with strays here in Greece and a lot of Greeks are not animal friendly. I blame the wrongful upbringing. But that is just me. If I ever manage to convince my dear beloved husband of mine that a dog is a NECESSARY addition to this family I will choose to rescue one, either from the streets or from an animal shelter. I know it won’t make any difference to the remaining dogs in need, but it will make a difference to the one that will make our family complete. And I am OK with that.
Until next time
