rediscovering the Greek countryside

11 Feb

I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again. One of the things I love most about this country is its climate. The fact that you can enjoy a great sunny Sunday afternoon in the countryside. Even in the winter. Just like yesterday.

nothing beats a blue sky

We took our kids, a few good friends & the recently added furry member of this family, geared up and drove off to find the perfect spot to enjoy a great picnic outdoors. It was slightly chilly so we needed the sun to warm us up.

one happy dog!

After a short walk in the woods (after all the kids were hungry, and yes I use the term kids lightly in the context of this sentence -yes-I still see myself as a kid-whenever convenient), we chose the sunniest spot, laid down our picnic blanket and took the goodies we had prepared out.

cheese pie, broccoli prosciutto & goat’s cheese Quiche, potato salad, fava, lettuce & rocket, tomatoes, olives

N. even made D. Greek coffee!

Once the sun and the food were gone we decided to drive a bit further down the mountain to stroll around the small port of Porto Rafti.

We bribed the kids with ice cream (yes, including this kid) which we did not find and although we were very close to having a total meltdown by Yianni, followed closely by Iliana we managed to distract them with this:

yes, a swan in the sea

and another one

What I realised again is that you don’t really need to spend money to have a great time (food needs to be involved though). This was soooooooo much better!

Porto Rafti in the winter

A lot of love, some food and a bit of sunshine and sundown. Just perfect!

Until next time,

It really doesn’t take much to enjoy ourselves does it. We don’t need to outlay $’s to have a relaxing beautiful time with family and friends. Simple pleasures make our lives more memorable. Your picnic ala ‘banquet’ looks amazing, where was my invite? 😉 xxx

Thank you for taking me/us on this little jouney with you! I could almost smell the coffee, the delish food and the sea. -Now I’ll have to go back to ‘here’ and try to enjoy the cold (but it was very sunny yesterday too, so I don’t really complain…). Have a lovely day 🙂

Ooh – sounds perfect. Picnics are the best.
Did I tell you, I once lived and worked in Greece for 6 months? Loved it 🙂

On the island of Lefkada, beautiful… Also planned to get married there, untill I got cold feet and couldn’t imagine my wedding anywhere else in the world but Norway, hah 😉
