I don’t have a lot of friends

12 Feb

but the ones I do have, I hold very close to my heart.

I was bullied in primary school (due to my German origin) and I was bullied in high school. I am not sure which one was the worst. At both times I felt pretty awful.

Throughout the years I have gained some friends and lost a few others. Partly because I moved away from the city, partly because I left my previous life and devoted myself on raising my kids in the suburbs. I probably made some mistakes myself which caused some friendships to shatter, but in all true honesty, who hasn’t?

What I have realized (now in my mid 30s) is that I don’t really need A LOT of friends. What I do know is that my few TRUE friends are here and there (Spain, Switzerland & Germany) and even if we don’t see each other that often I most definitely would go out of my way to help them and so would they. These are my friends for life.

At 08:35 yesterday morning my phone rang. It was the postman to let me know that I have a package from Spain. I don’t know what was more surreal; that the actual postman called (in Greece where public services REALLY suck) or that the package from my friend Maria had already arrived!!

This is the first post from my new netbook that my dear friend M. was either a) too kind, b) way too generous or c)enjoys my blog that much to send me as a gift via old fashioned, proper mail. I ll take all of the above!

Until next time

Friendships – valuable and sometimes taken for granted. Friendships like that of yours and M are special. As we go through life we can count on our hand the ‘true’ friendships that we have, those that are there when needed, those that will listen, those that you do not have to speak to every day…yet know that when you do, the conversation is as if you have spoken to them only yesterday. The rest are merely acquaintances. How wonderful for her to send you a gift and how lovely you are for doing a post about it. It reminds us all what ‘true friendships’ are made of 🙂 T xxx

that is so true…I have a few friends that have left Greece and I miss them a lot, but thanks to modern technology (Skype and the sorts) we manage to keep in touch!
and yes, the gift was a truly wonderful gift!!

The luck is all mine! we may have waited kindergarten, primary school, high school and the last class of ?? to finally connect (we were getting the signs, we just never saw them) but once we did it was definitely for good. Love you right back.

True friends do need to be appreciated and you clearly have one. As we get older, I think we recognize what a real friend is. Its no longer about popularity or trite like things but who is there for you through the ups and downs.
Good luck witht he new netbook.

I really think everyone only really has a handful of true friends.Ones they would tell there heart and souls to.and know what they said was in safe hands. No one that would gossip or judge what they were told. Even if you had only 1 of them….that’s all you need. You still love and cherish other friends….but these ones your talking about, Priceless!! Hugs Paula xxxxxx
