popcorn for breakfast

10 Jun

As I was preparing Yiannis lunch bag this morning I discovered a small bag of popped corn my sister Alex had prepared for the kids. Wait, that is not true. She had prepared the popcorn for us to munch on while watching a movie on Thursday night and since she made the quantity not for two but for a whole football team she then decided to split the remaining popcorn between the four school kids (my nieces & Yiannis).

Apparently Yiannis did not like his popcorn and it seems that I was too lazy to open his school bag properly and discover the uneaten tiny treasure.

There is a reason my brother-in-law calls me ‘the Junk Queen’. On another note: If we ever shared a household I am positive we would both become obese.

For the record: I have absolutely no problem of digesting junk, even if it is kinda stale and a few days old.

I love food.

I once went on a cruise with my grandparents and ate Zuercher Geschnetzeltes mit Champignons (veal in cream and mushroom sauce) for breakfast. OK, OK, I was 19 and had the metabolism of a 5-year-old. I could never pull that of now.

I do love my food though. I used to have a coworker who forgot to eat. We never managed to become friends. I blame it on the lack of food appreciation.

Due to health related restraints I have managed to learn to cook healthy food. Once in a while though I listen to my junk food cravings and indulge in a pack of chips (or crisps if you ‘re British) and/or a pack of gummy bears (like a true German).

Life is all about enjoying the small things, right?

How about you? Are you a foodie?

Until next time

I loved food so much and so did my waistline. LMAO Now I restrict those massive cravings for junk. My problem is I love fatty/fried foods. 🙂 It took me awhile to loose my weight..so I’m really careful these days. My medication for Bipolar whacks on the weight so I have to be careful. Otherwise I would be huge because food is such a comfort. that breakfast sounded yummy as!!! Hugs Paula xxxx

I love food! I love eating! Before my daughter was born I was reading in all those books for parents that mothers forgot to eat while taking care of their newborns. It newer happen to me! I am still struggling with my overweight. My husband and my daughter are the admirers of kinda simple food so sometimes I dream about something like “veal in cream and mushroom sauce” . . .

I definitely enjoy the sweets as well, especially chocolate.

I can never understand people who claim that they forget to eat !!! How can you forget to eat ??? It’s impossible !!!

Once, when I was 22, I had a very adventurous (not in a good way) night, where I with another friend had to call for an ambulance to get a girl from our Uni residence halls, who thought she was having a heart attack. We went with her in the ambulance and spend the whole night with her in hospital and came back to our Hall at about 7:30 the next morning, both totally knackered. It was Sunday morning and the Hall dinner service was offering brunch from 10:00-12:00 on the weekends. I collapsed in bed at 7:30am convinced that nothing and no one could wake me up ever again !!! WRONG !!! My body – which could not possibly forget it was brunch time – woke up at 11:45, went down to the dining area, had brunch (Full English breakfast plus chips and chocolate cake for desert was my weekend standard) and then came back up in my room and lied back in bed. My spirit was asleep the whole time !!! I only realised I did it, because people were asking me the next morning if I were OK because I was very silent at the dining area the previous day and then I disappeared in my room without saying anything to anyone – lol !!!

Oh, and re. gummy bears !!! I don’t know if the fact that I was born in Germany has anything to do with it, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM !!! I could easily live just eating gummy bears !!!

thank you Αγγελική for making me laugh!!crazy story I can totally understand!!! I am sure this could happen to me as well.
Regarding gummy bears, THANK YOU. I have been fighting the gummy bear war with N. for the last 12 years, he is the CHOCOLATE guy, he can NOT BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND my gummy bear addiction. But seriously, WHO doesn’t like gummy bears (actually I know quite a few)

Best breakfast junk food: cold pizza leftovers directly from the fridge (valid for up to a few days…)

Chocolate Tatu, chocolate. My one true vice. Um, well, I am a sweet and savory and all types of food kinda girl. My youngest and I just had love tapenade on crackers with an English Stilton on the side…this is just a side snack before dinner… She and I are foodies, we smell, we cook, we taste and ever since I decided to join my eldest on the gluten free/ part vegan diet, I cook more than usual because I don’t like processed food. Oh but here’s how much I love pop corn. A friend recently discovered a herb pop corn and we have been eating it by the bag loads… Sigh. I need to run more if I am to eat at this rate. As you say my metabolism is no longer one of a five year old. I join you on your gummy bag quest.. Love them, any time of the day.

Oh yes, cheese. I could live on cheese. By the way, that sounds delicious! How do you manage the vegan diet? I stopped eating dairy while I was breastfeeding Yiannis and these were the two most difficult (food wise) weeks of my life. Respect woman, RESPECT!

I love gummy bears, I can sit and eat 500gm of lollies (sweets) in a sitting – they are my downfall. In saying that goulash with bread dumplings, Zuercher Geschnetzeltes mit Champignons, roast pork with saukerkraut – yes I eat it all. Now I feel like pop corn. Mind you I do have to exercise to stop the middle aged spread from spreading further 😦 xx

    • wonderlandbytatu June 11, 2013 at 6:27 am #

I should exercise but I don’t. I use as an excuse that I still have Iliana at home but the truth is I hate exercising. I like sports but I hate exercising. Always have. When Iliana starts kindergarten though I need to do something as unfortunately I am not getting any younger 😦 xxx

You don’t really need me to tell you I like food! 🙂 Well, I used to have lots of junk cravings like marshmallows AND gummy bears but for some reason these two seem to have faded the past few years. Last time I ate marshmallows (at Pelio), their taste felt odd and I stopped after the 3rd – shocked even myself. I have to say I usually eat healthy stuff but one of my obsessions is the spiced tea from Starbucks and the all their cakes. They must have bucket loads of sugar but I cannot help myself!

    • wonderlandbytatu June 12, 2013 at 8:46 am #

yes, you are sort of like my soul food sister!! I wish that happened to me with my gummy bear addiction!! Cakes are not really my thing, but I do have a Starbucks addiction as well: raspberry frappuccino!

      • lahacienda June 12, 2013 at 9:00 am #

Evil Starbucks…oh, and any dessert you make is definitely addictive – though most of them are light so I’m not sure if it counts…
